What is the CHAMPSS program?

CHAMPSS, Choosing Healthy Appetizing Meal Plan Solutions for Seniors, advocates the importance of nutrition and social interaction for the well-being of older adults. The CHAMPSS program goes beyond traditional meal plans by offering participants the opportunity to savor dietitian-approved menus in the warm ambiance of a restaurant setting. This unique approach empowers older adults to make healthy food choices while enjoying the company of their peers, creating a more engaging and fulfilling dining experience.

How does the CHAMPSS program work?

How To Enroll In CHAMPSS?

Eligible individuals can submit their application online at: scchampss.org/enroll or visit one of the Self-Help for the Elderly at Sunnyvale Senior Center. The processing time for your CHAMPSS application typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. Once your application has been processed, your designated senior center will reach out to you. They will request that you come in-person and bring a government-issued identification document to verify your age for eligibility purposes.

What Is Included In The CHAMPSS Program?

The CHAMPSS program provides participants with nutritious meals on weekdays and/or weekends at a CHAMPSS restaurant. See the restaurant menu for meal service times. Each participating restaurant offers its dietitian-approved menu. A typical CHAMPSS meal consist of the main entrée (with protein, whole grain, and vegetables), fresh fruit, and low-fat milk.

How Much Does A CHAMPSS Meal Cost?

The full cost of a CHAMPSS meal ranges from $11.00 to $13.00. Participants’ contributions help towards the cost of the meal. To support the program, we ask for a suggested contribution of $5.00 or more per meal. To extend this program to benefit additional clients, you are welcome to contribute more to support the program. No eligible participant will be denied a meal because they are unable to contribute.

NOTE: The County does not fund 100% of the CHAMPSS program costs. All contributions received will assist Self-Help for the Elderly subsidize some of the program operational costs.
