The Santa Clara County Senior Nutrition Program in collaboration with Self-Help for the Elderly, is pleased to offer a restaurant meal program called Santa Clara County CHAMPSS, for adults 60 or older and their spouses/partners regardless of age. Participating local restaurants provide nutritious meals with the goal of helping promote a healthy lifestyle.
Founded in 1966, Self-Help for the Elderly is a community-based organization committed to promoting the independence, dignity, and self-worth of seniors. Each year the agency serves over 40,000 older adults in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services to empower older adults to help themselves and others. Our vision is to be the premier provider of older adults services in the San Francisco Bay Area with a commitment to excellence and achievement. Over 90% of our clients come from low-income minority community.
The Santa Clara County Senior Nutrition Program offers nutritious meals to older adults through congregate settings and home-delivery. The congregate meal program provides hot ethnically diverse meals and an opportunity to socialize. The home delivered meal program provides meals to homebound older adults who are unable to prepare meals or have difficulty obtaining food. The Senior Nutrition Program partners with municipalities, community-based and faith-based organizations to provide invaluable resources, access to activities and important services.
CHAMPSS has been so popular among the older adult community since it was established in 2014. It provides unique opportunities for older adults and their spouses/partners to enjoy nutritious meals in a restaurant style setting. CHAMPSS program is very popular and has been featured in numerous media outlets. Effective April 1, 2024, the CHAMPSS program extends its services to Santa Clara County.
